There are a lot of Black-headed Gulls in the little lake nowadays. Other birds in the lake are mallards, Horned Grebe and Eurasian Coots. I made a reflection on how the different species takes off from the water. The Coots and the Grebes runs on the water and seem to have a hard time getting up in the air. And you rarely see it as they seem to avoid flying. Mallards and other ducks has easier to get up in the air. But the Gulls, you almost don't even notice when they take off. They are just up in the air with seemingly no effort at all. I have often taken shots on birds landing on water but rarely when they take off. This is the first attempt to try to get an image at the very moment when they leave the water. Wish me luck! I´ll post when I get better ones then these.

  1. That last shot is very interesting.... he seems to be using his webbed feet to push off the water for a quick take-off!

  6. Fantastic in-flight photos. I find photos like that very difficult to take. I need more practice!

  7. I think gulls can do everything except fly backwards. They are very graceful in the air.
