Salskrake - Mergellus albellus - Smew

We only see this bird during migration. They breed up north in Antarctic. They only make a short stop to gain weight in my area. 

I love the graphic look of the male and the female is cute.

One of my favourites passing by. Three pairs visiting the lake during their way up north. The male is stunning and the female is cute, at least in my eyes. :)

This is my favourite bird no. one. I like the coloring of both male and female. The male in its breeding plumage is so graphic with the white and black pattern and the crest on it´s head. There are only this pair in that lake and it is impossible to get close. I walked hidden in the forest but that did not help. They noticed me and took of. They will probably soon continue up north.

Max Allan Niklasson: Bläsandens huvud har en mer rundare form på huvudet: ganska hög panna i jämförelse med hjässan, vilket brukar synas på långt håll. Runt ögat ser det ut som den är sminkad då den är ganska mörk kring det, bläsanden alltså. Sedan ligger bläsanden mycket högre i vattnet likt en gräsand, medans Salskraken ligger lågt i vattnet likt en knipa.
