Ducks

NF Photo 110929, Näsnaren

All of a sudden the lake isfilled with migrating ducks. I think I spotted about 10 different species. They will probably stay for about two weeks. Sadly I had no time o really study this, as I´ve been helping my daughter as she is moving. And tomorrow I will go to Falsterbo Observatory in the southern part of Sweden.
They say a lot  of migrating birds are passing there this time of year. So I´m hoping to see a lot.

Ett problem med fågelskådning är att de alltid sitter DÄR, högt uppe i träden. Då är det bra med långt tele så man i alla fall får en bild även om den inte är bra.  :)

A problem with birding is that the birds always sits in treetops. Then a long lens is good to have. At least you get a shot even if it is not good.

This little guy was a very nice acquaintance. It was not afraid of people. It found us and followed us. And for once, it was not hard to get good shots.  This spices is known to steal your lunch. So, as we arrived at the lookout tower the bird arrived too. And, like magic, so did a lot of sandwiches. Of course the bird was happy steeling all ham it could get.

This is from the trip to the mountains,  in northern Sweden, I did in June. It belongs to the crow family and is a new spieces to my birdlist.

This was very fun to watch. The couple have 4 young. And one parent came with a large fish and offered it to the family. But the fish was too large so the young tried to get it down the throat but failed and dropped it in the water. I hope the fish was dead because it was thrown back and forth for a long time. I even had time to shoot a video. But it did not really come out well. Not so easy when you are sitting in a kayak and the kayak starts to sway in waves from another boat.

About that last shot. I just could not resist it. But the camera plays tricks on you. It was a 300mm lens so it seem closer then it actually was to the beach. :)

This sparrow is closely related to the European House Sparrow. The male has brown head and white cheeks. The House Sparrow has grey head and light grey cheeks. The female resembles the House Sparrow female. They say the Italian is a hybrid between the Spanish Sparrow and the House Sparrow.

Svarthakedopping - Podiceps auritus - Horned Grebe

From the back this time. I don´t think I have that before.

The first time I saw this one was 2011-06-05 that makes it about 2 weeks old. It looks a bit rugged so it might be changing the first feathers. Probably the first one hatched this year.

There have been 7 families in the little wetland this year. At least from what I have seen. Most of the nests are now empty but oen is still on it. And that one has been laying there for more then a month. There are not many chicks. One or two per family. I think that is very little. In Storulvån this week we saw a family with 4 chicks.

This little lake is now getting lots of green algeae and I think that is bad. There were also fewer adults there. Last year they left long before the chicks so maybe, if the breeding was unsuccessful, they started the migrating already.

I loved this. I took those shots from "the comfort of my car". This lark really showed off. Too bad it was not a little closer still.  We call it Songlark, but this one can´t sing with all the food in it´s beak. These are the best shots I´ve got from it. Mostly you see it in the air, hovering and singing it´s heart out. :)  And, no, the camera was not on autoshooting. The lark was there for a while. Seemed to like that straw. :)

Warblers for WBW

In the darknes of the forest a bird is singing. It took me a long while to locate it. I got one decent shot of it. But as I am bad on the songs I had to take the ID from a video where I could recognize the song. It is a Grönsångare - Phylloscopus sibilatrix - Wood Warbler

This bird too is a "hard to get" bird. Moving constantly among the reeds.  As soon as you locate it it is moving. These are the only ones I´ve seen of those species this year. So far anyway.
