Passing by this land yesterday I realized we had a brand new lake. It had been raining a lot and the land was filled with water. Not sure the farmer liked it but the birds did. The first of the vaders I´ve seen was there and some greylag goose and gulls. And to me, it was a nice surprise :)
And in the nearby pond I found a Moorhen. I hope it will stay.

The entire family of the Common Moorhen, 2 adults and 6 juveniles hatched in a weeks time.

The Common Moorhen family share the same area with a Eurasian Coot family. As soon as the last of the Moorhen hatchling was hatched there was trouble between the two adults of both species. But it did not seem like anybody was hurt though.

Finally the Moorhen came out. First day I saw only one young. The next day they there were five of them.  Now I will have something to watch for a couple of weeks. :) They are quite hard to catch so it is a challenge. They are in the reed popping in and out and a lot of bushes in the way.

Water fowl Good and bad

Sothöna - Fulica atra - Eurasian Coot
The two on the image is not the same family. The Ad probably thought the baby got too close and chased it away. As you can see the Ad bites the baby around the neck. It came out unharmed though. This might be the same Ad individual that robbed the nest of Black-headed gulls two weeks ago. Is it bad behaviour of one individual or is it common among Coots? I have never seen it bfore.

This one never comes close enough for a decent shot. I have only seen one but there is probably two. Have not seen any chicks yet.

A beautiful family, isn´t it?

A few ones today

They have finally arrived and are looking for a home.

Fisktärna - Sterna hirundo - Common Tern
It was low pressure and drizzling so all terns and gulls chased at the water surface

Sothöna - Fulica atra - Eurasian Coot
That is quite a nest she has created. It is the first time I have seen the Coot with such a visible nest. And there is another one also that has the nest a Horned Grebe used last year.

Rörhöna - Gallinula chloropus - Common Moorhen
The moorhen is shy and hard to spot. But today I was lucky. This one I have seen before and it probably has a mate and nest. Today I also spotted one on the other side of the road so maybe there are two couples. Now I´m looking forward to see chicks. :)

A pair of Moorhens stays in the pond where the Horned Grebe stays. They have been there for a week now. I cross my fingers that they will stay and breed. Then I have a chance to see young. I have never seen that before so that would be nice.
