I´m not sure why but the Goldeneye often tilts it´s body when it takes off. :)
I was glad it tilted my way :)

First time I have seen this. Goldeneye mating. The male entered the female and then he grabbed her head and lifted it up. Then he turned to the right and rotated them both two full circles before he let go of her. Her head does not look all that great after that treatment. :)  I have no idea if this is common behavior.

Water fowl Good and bad

Sothöna - Fulica atra - Eurasian Coot
The two on the image is not the same family. The Ad probably thought the baby got too close and chased it away. As you can see the Ad bites the baby around the neck. It came out unharmed though. This might be the same Ad individual that robbed the nest of Black-headed gulls two weeks ago. Is it bad behaviour of one individual or is it common among Coots? I have never seen it bfore.

Rörhöna - Gallinula chloropus - Common Moorhen
This one never comes close enough for a decent shot. I have only seen one but there is probably two. Have not seen any chicks yet.

The title says a few! Yes, outside my window was 3 bullfinches, At the feeder was only three Blyúe tits that I could see. And the poor Goldeneye was alone in the entire lake that I could see. :(
Guess I will not be birding for a while. But luckily I have birds from Scotland, Morocco and Honoulu that I can post. I´ll still be around the birding blogs. :)

Finally life is thriving in the little pond. Now it is an exciting time to see how many couple will have young and how many will survive. Today I spotted three families of Horned Grebe and one family each of the two others. And a few gulls of course.

Looking for birds a rainy day

Last friday was one of those boring days. Grey and rain now and then. Did not have much to do so took the car for a trip around the area. And.. you know what? I did find some goodies.I had a difficult time to choose among these and the post before it. I am rather proud of the Northern Wheatears I posted in there. If you have time, maybe you like to take a look.

.
Today I like  to show you this weeks highlight. Birding is somewhat distressing. Sometimes you find nothing to see, other times birds are just there. When you least expect them to. But that is what is exciting about it, isn´t it?

The first bird, the Pochard, was swimming quietly down at the local little beach. Just 5 min from my apartment. I have not seen that one before so it was a nice surprise.
The Goldeneye pair showed up at a small wetland, in my town, I use to visit now and then. And stayed put so I could get some nice photos.
The last one, the Reed Bunting, was nice to see in it´s present plumage. I had not seen that one before, only a female. So that one made my day today. :)
