I am always happy when the terns arrive in spring. I love everything about them and love trying to catch them in flight. They are quick and a challenge to capture. Today however they stayed put on the poles in the company of a little wagtail. Next time, maybe, I get some fun. :)

A few ones today

Svartvit flugsnappare- Ficedula hypoleuca - Pied Flycatcher
They have finally arrived and are looking for a home.

Fisktärna - Sterna hirundo - Common Tern
It was low pressure and drizzling so all terns and gulls chased at the water surface

Sothöna - Fulica atra - Eurasian Coot
That is quite a nest she has created. It is the first time I have seen the Coot with such a visible nest. And there is another one also that has the nest a Horned Grebe used last year.

Rörhöna - Gallinula chloropus - Common Moorhen
The moorhen is shy and hard to spot. But today I was lucky. This one I have seen before and it probably has a mate and nest. Today I also spotted one on the other side of the road so maybe there are two couples. Now I´m looking forward to see chicks. :)

Some birds on the road

Ljungpipare - Pluvialis apricaria - European golden plover

These Golden Plovers was completely motionless so I did not see them until another birder showed me. I had thought it was lumps of dirt. I was not that close then. I was able to come rather close before I noticed I disturbed them. They are now up north somewhere. :)

Ejder - Somateria mollissima - Common Eider

 Storskrake - Mergus merganser - Common Merganser/Goosander

Rödhake - Erithacus rubecula - European Robin

Fisktärna - Sterna hirundo - Common Tern

Some of the birds I´ve seen lately. If you are interested of the trip to Hummelvik, a small fishing village at the coast, where I saw the robin, Eider and Mergansers, you can visit my Travel blog. The post is HERE

If I am not responding to comments quickly it is because I am on my way to Öland and Ottenby bird observatory, a Bird Migrating paradise in Sweden. So I hope my next weeks entry will be about that.

Fisktärna -  Sterna hirundo - Common Tern
NF Photo 110506 suddenly a lot of them appeared. Usually there are mostly gulls at that location. So I was a bit surprised.

NF Photo 110506 just arrived from the south.

Brun Kärrhök - Circus aeruginosus - Marsh Harrier. male
NF Photo 110506 the best shot I have from this one. And I think I found it´s nest. :)
Tofsvipa - Vanellus vanellus - Northern Lapwing
NF Photo 110507, it was just outside the car. Had to lean out the window to take the shot.

A pond in Nyköping

This Friday I went to Nyköping as I got a mail that said there were a Mandarin Duck swimming in the Swan pond. Well, I went there and I saw:

Vitkindad gås - Branta leucopsis - Barnacle Goose
This wone was sleeping but others were not. I was happy as I did not have any good pics of this oen before. It is a small and very sweetlooking bird.
Rörhöna - Gallinula chloropus - Common Moorhen
This is a new species to me. I havn´t seen it before and now I spotted a pair. In that little pond. In the middle of the city. And got some good shots too. :)

Strandskata - Haematopus ostralegus - Eurasian Oystercatcher
This was new  to me too. I´ve seen it once beforethrough the spotting tub, but so far away it was hard to recognise. And this time I got shots :)

In the small boat harbour nearby was a canadian goose nesting on the fabric roof to a small boat.

And to finish off came the first Fisktärna - Sterna hirundo - Common Tern of the year. I love that bird. So good to watch and a challenge to "get on film". And all of this in a small pond. But, what about the Mandarin Duck? No, it was not there.
