Grey heron bullied by Black-headed gull

Those gulls are really nasty sometimes. They are bullying every bird that comes close to the nests even if it is birds that never bother them. They do the same thing to cranes. And coots. But Coots are understandable, They do eat the eggs.

Gråhäger - Grey Heron
One adult and one juvenile

Crane, Mute swan, Greylag goose and Eurasian coot

They are gathering and preparing for the trip south again.
I think they will leave early as the waterlevel is still too low.

The Grey heron was repeatedly attacked by a Black-headed Gull. Not sure why as I could not see a reason. There was also another heron that was not attacked. Finally this one had enough and flew up to the top of a tree. Last image is another Grey heron.
The geese are graylag geese already comming together to prepare migration back south.

Gråhäger - Ardea cinerea - Grey Heron

These herons is a group of 5, 2 ad and 3 young.
This was yesterday, a very grey day but the grass is still green and lush. But, this is really next years crop.
As soon as they take off you see what´s behind it. The railway powerlines and the city.

Grey Heron and Crane family

Gråhäger - Grey Heron

Seem to have been a great year for thehGrey Heron. On the image is two adults and one young. But I saw at least 16 herons in the small lake. Almost seemed crowded. :)

Trana - Crane family, two adult and one young

This is the first Crane pair I have seen with a young in my area.

That´s it folks. This event took only one minute. The heron was able to land in the grass and the eagle had to give it up. I think the heron was safe on the ground as it can use it´s beak as a weapon then.

As a photographers point of view it was a pity that they came in back light making most of the images dark and noisy. But I will probably never see something like this again so I´m pleased anyway.

I hope you liked it too.

People are a bit strange I think. I have posted two images before and everyone feel sorry for the heron. Of course it is bad fighting for ones life. But as a reality of life I feel sorry for the eagle. It got no dinner. There are maybe a thousand grey herons in the area but only one or two eagles. And everybody love eagles, don´t they?

It is only the third time I see this shrike and I only have 3 shots. :) So I was happy to see it flying around.

A new arrival this week. I saw 3 of them and the one to the right just picked up some big rat or something. So now I know what it looks like when they eat them.
