This day I was really out trying to get shots of the Grey Wagtail that stays a couple of km from my home. (a post of it HERE) Then, out of the blue, literally, this beauty landed on a dead birch just a few meters in front of me. And a perfectly fit in my camera lens too. Some days you are lucky. The last shot it passed me rather close.

I finally got to see this one up close. It is only the second time I´ve seen it. This is a female. She came to a feeder about 10 min from my home.  It is our smallest woodpecker.

Two of my favourites was visiting the forest feeder today. But so hard to get great shots of them. It was dark and they move so quickly.  I am especially happy about the Crested tit because it seems to be only one and it is rarely visiting the feeder.

Despite the fact this happened close to water this bird obviously preferred to take a sand bath. It was so much fun to watch.  From my trip to Scotland last June. :)

They started the forest feeder for the winter so I went there to see what birds had come. Seems like most of the regulars found it. At the lake the mallards and the gadwells took off before i even got close. :( From the tower I spotted a strange looking female mallard. Her front and head was different.

Ducks on Näsnaren

Mostly Mallards and a few other ducks

I was out to Lake Näsnaren the other day. I was rather dissappointed that day. When I arrived I managed to get one shot of the Gadwalls before they took off. There was many ducks on the lake but most od them were mallards and they were on the other side of the lake where you have no access. The shot above was taken with my 500mm lens so it was hard to tell what ducks actually was there. But the sound of the quacking indicated lots of Mallards. Ducks often stops here for a few days on there way south to where ever they spend their winter. .

I have never been this close to birds before. It was a real treat and I loved every second of it. Despite the fact we was attackt most of the time. You had to wear head protection. But luckily they did not target your eyes. You had to be very careful so you stayed out of their way as chicks could wander around. I had a lot of fun trying to capture them in the backlight of the sun. And as you can see there was nests, eggs and chicks all over the place. A place I´d like to revisit.

This was a bird I was really excited to see. I only saw 3 on this island among the thousends of birds nesting there. We saw several on other occations but never this close again. Take a look at the video I found on youtube. They are very stiff in flight. Two of them was laying on a nest. One is the top photo. That nest has an excellent view over the ocean. The bird below might be it´s mate. :) This bird has a very special bill. No room for mistakes here.

The comment from Ramlbing woods explain how. Thank you.
