Yesterdays birds

I went to the forest feeder and the lake yesterday. At the feeder I noticed great spotted woodpecker, nuthatcher and a female Eurasian Siskin. At the lake most ice was now gone and replaced with graylag goose and lots of coots. Spring IS here!

Större hackspett - Dendrocopos major - great spotted woodpecker

This is two different birds and now I wonder what happened, did they run out of food sources? Or jsut want to find a mate? 
In my town they have taken down a lot of trees. Maybe too many? The one on the pole seem to be a male, unsure about the one on the lamp as I can´t see the neck.

This is my balcony feeder. I mentioned last sudnay that I had a magpie (see the previous post) visiting at times and was not to happy about it. It is a large bird. But take a look who is visiting today. A woodpecker. Seems like this winter is hard even to the large birds. :( 

 

The shots are taken different days. This little ball will not last long with peckers and magpies visiting. But I can´t have a large feeing. 3 years ago I had rats on the balcony because of it. On the third floor! Not fun. The shots are taken through a 3-glass window and I see it from my computer work station. I very much enjoy watching the movements outside the window. But large birds isn´t really an option.

They started the forest feeder for the winter so I went there to see what birds had come. Seems like most of the regulars found it. At the lake the mallards and the gadwells took off before i even got close. :( From the tower I spotted a strange looking female mallard. Her front and head was different.

De skiljs åt av den röda fläcken i nacken. - The differens is the red spot in the neck.

Kunde inte rå för ett smil när jag såg den första bilden. Var det en julgran med kulor i? Nej, det var hackspetten jag nästan bröt nacken av mig för att fota. Han plockade kottar i granen och flög sedan till trädet bredvid för att plocka ut fröna.

Could not help but smile when I saw the first image. What was it? A christmas tree with ornaments? No, it turned out to be that woodpecker I almost broke my neck to photograph. He picked cones in the spruce and then flew over to a nearby tree to pick out the seeds.
