Whooper Swan and Mute Swan
Knölsvan - Cygnus olor - Mute Swan
NF Photo 130718, Lake Näsnaren
I was surprised when I arrived to the lake a couple of days ago. I was expecting graylag geese. Instead there was about a hundred mute swans and one whooper swan. And a few ducks here and there. The swans usually gather here but not this early. Does that mean the breeding was not successful? I did not see any young birds in the group. Anyway, it was a beautiful sight. And a lot of action in the group too.

There were about 40 Mute Swans on our local marsh with one Whooper swan with them. Maybe they have flown over to you. From Findlay
ReplyDeleteSome great action shots here. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteWonderful captures...
ReplyDeleteGreat photos - beautiful birds - so many birds in that last photo!
/Pia
Excellent captures, love the in-flight shots!
ReplyDeleteWe have the pleasure of having Mute Swans gather on our lake every fall and yes, I would say it is early and perhaps it was not a good year for the young. So far our one resident pair has three cignets (started with four ... now down to three). They are usually successful here and thier only enemy is man, sadly. Your gathering is beautiful and I am impressed with the Whooper Swan. Have never seen one. Thank you for the beautiful post ...
