Drillsnäppa - Actitis hypoleucos - Common Sandpiper
The first photo was shot at Strandstuviken where I birded last week. The second two was shot at Djulö Kvarn when I was paddling. I was so surprized as I have never seen any waders there before. Or in the entire lake. This is a residential district and the two birds were walking just in front of a house. I came quite close too, in my kayak. Maybe they did not see me as a human where I sat in the kayak.

Birding at Strandstuviken

The birds around the area where I live is non existent. It is almost empty now. Some preybirds hunting mice or rabbits are still here. Even the geeze has left. And the forest is quiet. I had to do something so I geared up and went to the coast. It is about 1.5 hours drive to Nyköping at the Baltic sea. I had checked the specis list for the area and it were suppost to be at least some waders there. Well, I found some even if it was not much. It was a strange day. Cloudy when I left with threatening clouds. At arrival the sun shone. When I came to an outlook tower and I was under cover, it started to pour down heavily. But there was some geeze and a  few waders to look at.

Then sun came back with a beautiful sky. I joined a couple and went to another location I had not visited before. At that wetland there were some more waders and a few terns. We also had our luch at that place. It is nice eating and birding. In the sun. Then I slowly started back. Itwas quite a way to walk back. With all of my equipment you don´t walk fast. Back at the car I had some fruit and then I heard thunder. I only went about 100 m when the sky opened. I almost had to stop the car because I did not see. The rain came down aso hard. I was happy to be in the car. Had I still been walking I would have been soaked before 30 sec of time.

Note: the bill are slightly bent upward. The reddest one probably male acc to a note further down.

Comments on Artportalen:

150 bird species on my blog

I have now reached 150 photographed species on the blog.
I should need some baloons or something.
Maybe some fireworks.:)

Näbben skiljer den från Myrspoven. Den besöker oss bara sällsynt längs kusterna under flyttningarna.
The beak separates it from the Bar-tailed Godwit. It is rarely seen along the coasts during migrations.

This is my 150th bird species on my blog. So it is kind of a celebration. I was happy to see it when I visited Öland 2 weeks ago. I did not realize it was this one until I saw the photo because there turned out to be three different species loking almost teh same. People say you shall have a notebook and take notes. But without the photos I would have nothing. It is too much details to write down and I would only be confused. And the bird might be long gone before I wrote it down. So ... I photograph. Next time I know what to look for. :)

Öland trip tryout

Last saturday I went to Öland. I´ve been in Gamleby and Västervik ( 3 posts on NF Photo starting HERE) for a week and now I headed south. I did go to Öland for 2 reasons. I wanted to  try my tent.  I have not slept in a tent since I was a kid and now I wanted to see if this is something I shall do in order to get to where the birds are. With a tent you are free to go where ever and when ever you like.

It was a good trip and I will do it again. But hopefully then there will be more birds. The only problem I had was to find the local Supermarket to buy food. Luckily I brought some with me. :(

The trip back home took 5 h with only one stop for gas and wc visits.
