Ducks on Näsnaren

Mostly Mallards and a few other ducks

I was out to Lake Näsnaren the other day. I was rather dissappointed that day. When I arrived I managed to get one shot of the Gadwalls before they took off. There was many ducks on the lake but most od them were mallards and they were on the other side of the lake where you have no access. The shot above was taken with my 500mm lens so it was hard to tell what ducks actually was there. But the sound of the quacking indicated lots of Mallards. Ducks often stops here for a few days on there way south to where ever they spend their winter. .

Well, this is about how much you see them.  They migrate over land at night, daytime like this. Seems like you have to be up north to really see them.

More from Malta

Those two ducks were also in captivity on Malta. But I post them as they are better then the shots I have before. Or different. The colors are not totally correct. What appers to be blue markings on the Eurasian Teal are in fact green. The strong sun made it difficult I guess.

This might be a cheat as I found these birds in captivity. But yet, it IS a new species to me. It does not come to Sweden as it is a Mediterranean species and I found it on Malta.

World Bird Wednesday XXXIII
a new meetingplace for our winged friends. Starts on Thursdays at 20.00 Stockholm time.
I hope to see some butterflies, dragonflies and bugs. Birds are also welcome, of course, as any other "flying objects". Known or unknown. And, as I hope, from all over the world.

Today I got some shots that shows the Gadwal female in flight. The red markings on the wings does not show when she is on the ground or swimming. Rather nice coloring I think.  :)

Most of the time they were like this.  Upside down. Wonder if that is why they are named pintails. :)

A new spieces to me, a lifer. Great! But why are they always on the other side of the wetland? Shot with 500mm lens.

These birds are only resting for a few days before continuing further north. But I am happy as long as they stay.

The mallard is too common to really give that wow factor. You see them so much you don´t really look at them. But what do you say about this? Every now and then there comes someone different.
