Thankyou so much for linking to my postNature Footsteps. I only know about this disease being in the UK but I'm sure its probably elsewhere in Europe aswell. Someone somewhere in my locality probably has been feeding the birds with feeders that have not been cleaned in a long time and this parasite has then started to breed on the feeders/food which then transfers to the birds when they eat from that feeder. Then once they have the parasite their saliva is infected and if they move to another feeder in another garden then that feeder is contaminated aswell.
ReplyDeleteThankfully I've not seen any other sick birds in the area so maybe its not widespread amongst the bird community here but I miss not seeing the birds in my garden.
